Measuring for the height of your wrought iron double gates or wrought iron single gates

We offer a range of different heights accross our ranges. Simply choose the height that will best suit your property. Below are a few useful points to help you choose.

We allow a 5cm ground clearance for all heights of metal gates and railings. Therefore when the wrought iron gate is delivered it will be 5cm shorter than the listed height, but once hung will be the correct height.

Most people prefer for their gate to not rise above the top of any capstone, with the exception of arch top gates that may rise above in the centre of the gate.

All the heights stated for arch top steel gates are for the height at the start of the arch (at the sides). The height in the centre will vary depending on how wide your gate is, as we make all our metal entrance gates to a true radius. Therefore the wider the wrought iron arch gate, the higher the arch.

Measuring for the width of your wrought iron double gates or wrought iron single gates

It is very important that you take accurate measurements of your gate opening.

Measure the gap between the wall/brick pillar/posts at the top and bottom as detailed below. Make sure you measure from inside of one wall/brick pillar/post to the inside of the other.

Please do not measure an old wrought iron gate if you are buying a repleacement. We calculate the gate size needed and take into account the hinges and latch for you. The prices and sizes quoted throughout the website are for the gap between the gate posts.

Please provide your measurements to us in both millimetres and inches to minimise the chance of error.

Measure the gap within which you wish your gates posts and wrought iron gates to fit. You should measure from the outside edge of one post to the outside edge of the other post. If you wish your metal gates and posts to fit between two walls or pillars, then simply measure from the inside of one wall to the inside of the other as detailed below. We suggest that you measure at the top and bottom.

Please note that our gates will not necessarily fit onto any existing gate posts that you may have. This is because the hinge rides that you have on your posts will not match where the hinge eyes are on the metal gate that you order. We therefore recommend that if you intend to use steel gate posts, that you purchase new posts to match the metal gate that you are ordering.

Measuring for the height of your wrought iron railing

Measuring for the width of your wrought iron railing

It is very important that you take accurate measurements of your metal railing opening.

Measure the gap between the wall/brick pillar/posts at the top and bottom as detailed below. Make sure you measure from inside of one wall/brick pillar/post to the inside of the other.

Wrought iron railings are available in any length you desire, however we suggest that you opt for a post every two metres to provide rigidity to the length of metal railing. If you require a run with posts, please see the section below.

Measuring for the height of your wrought iron railing

Measuring for the width of your wrought iron railing

It is very important that you take accurate measurements of your metal railing opening.

If your metal iron railing is going to be one straight run, then simply measure the whole length of the run. If it is to sit between two pillars then please provide the measurement from the inside of one pillar to the inside of the other. You will also need to decide how many posts to have. We suggest that you have a post every two metres to maintain the rigidity of the wrought iron railing. Additionally you may decide to have end posts, that is posts at the end of one or both ends of your railing.

Please note that all we require is the length of the opening within which you wish the posts and railings to fit within, we will do all the necessary calculations for you and will evenly space the posts out along the run for you.

If you wish to have a corner post and therefore two runs of railings at a 90 degree angle, please treat them as two seperate runs of railings (including the corner post in the measurement for both)

You would therefore need to measure from one end to the outside edge of the corner post for both runs and decide how many additional posts you would like in each run. When purchasing the railings, please order each run seperately within the shopping basket to ensure that you can provide measurments for both runs, or alternatively, make use of the additional information box to provide the measurments.
